I am pleased that headway is being made and it is likely due to the persistence of people like Deb. I also wonder if it has anything to do with the presence of Michelle S on the board? She is published by a small press and I would hope that she would lobby for a representation of all books for the awards.
As to participation in a separate category: Why make a separate category? I can only assume that it is to ensure that small press books are judged on a level playing field because, as you all know, small press books do not equal the quality of books published by the big Christian houses. I'd like to see a justification for a separate category, just out of curiosity.

No particular justification; it wouldn't be my first choice. But when I asked, earlier in the year, why small press fiction was being excluded, if you recall I got a rather snippy answer about how they'd prayed about the decision etc. I figured, fight the battles as they come, and if you can't win the entire field, settle for half.
If they do think about putting s.p. /e-books in a separate category, my guess is that the membership will question why they've sequestered them. Then it's a relatively easy step to including them in the general run of Book of the Year entries, as they've done in years past.
My take.
