in Chicago, June 7, 8; 10 am to 6 pm
Put on by the Chicago Tribune every year, this is a huge event for book sellers. The crowds are all book buyers! nearly 100 000 people attend over the 2 days.
The demographics of attendees:
--avreage annual household income of $66 200.
--average age is 41 years old
--71% are college graduates
ANYHOW, I am getting to the point . . .
I have paid for a 2 table "booth" (total length 16'). The Catholic Writers group (Karina) are taking one table. So far, Caprice Hokstad and Helena Lehmann are sharing in the expenses of the other table (at $40 each). Helena will be present to sell her books and between Frank and I, we will represent Caprice and any others who care to participate.
Frank and I (and Mavis of course) will spend 2 nights in Chicago because we live 3+ hours away.
If you would like to have books sold at the fair, the price is $40 + you mail me your books and any marketing material like postcards, etc. I return all unused merchandise to you and a check for all the profits you earn.
I am also purchasing bright colorful shopping bags in bulk for the two days to give out to interested people. Something I learned from last year's fair is that book shoppers sought out the one or two booths who offered colourful bags! so just by virtue of a bunch of people carrying them around, it will generate activity at our booth.
In these bags I am going to put postcards and book marks from Light at the Edge of Darkness, Flashpoint, Forever Richard, League of Superheroes as well as information about the Lost Genre Guild.
If you would like to have marketing materials displayed (and perhaps put into the bags) I am asking for a $10 fee to go towards the cost of the fair. You mail me your materials and I mail back the remainders. If you'd like to have your book marks, etc. displayed in some type of holder for better visibility, as long as it isn't too big, we can use it . . . and then return it to you.
If you are interested, please contact me asap as I will be on holiday for two weeks starting Saturday. However, someone will be here to pick up any boxes that arrive.
