Had the privilege of meeting Cyn, Frank, and Karina this past weekend at the Chicago Printer's Row Book Fair. We had a great time.
If these folks are ever in your neck of the woods, drop everything and go hang out with them. We had fun cussing and discussing, agreeing that All Is Not Right in Christian Fiction, selling books, doing promo, networking with readers, and a myriad of other noteworthy things.
I spent a great day hanging out with some great people.

Oh we had a spendid time! It was wonderful meeting both Deb Kinnard and her husband and Karina Fabian. Great fun!
I've posted some pictures on the board "News in the Christian Publishing Industry."

Deb did a LOT of cussing. She made Lake Michigan sailors on shore-leave blush. Shameful. Pity the Kinnards missed Sunday's four-block long wet T-shirt contest.

Frank, Karina and I looked like drowned rats -- felt like it too! I was manning the fort by myself for a short while until F & K returned from their marketing efforts. I tried to battle the rain with my huge tarp over the tables until the wind lifted it (and my shirt) up over my head. Finally I gave up and just sat on the table. The wind couldn't budge my behind -- try as it might. On another note, I think it was Frank doing the cussing and fussing! Don't blame poor Deb

Mmmm, so Sooz won't get in trouble for saying worse than crap? ;D
I already knew Cyn was cool, can't wait to hang with Frank in September.

I think y'all should know, my talk was comparatively clean. That is, up until we started talking CBA/ECPA...

Trust Frank to start rumours -- unfounded rumours! He was the one, after all, who went out into the middle of the road and bunny-eared an unknown woman minding her own business. I don't know if you saw it, Deb, but your husband is definitely my witness!

After seeing the photos, I do believe the bunny-ear-stranger story. And no, folks, I do not have fingers growing out of my head.
On second thought, with all I've got to do this summer, another set WOULD come in handy...

We had a great time, even with the rain. Cyn did a heroic effort with the two tables when the rain hit. I only lost about 10 books--and most of those were under the table. (Wind lifted the tarp just enough to get rain in the suitcase.) It was very sad that so few people actually bought books, but how can you compete with the "Six for five dollars!" booths? I sold 5 books (only one of which was mine) and Frank sold 4 or 5 of his. I got called "sister" because I was wearing a skirt and running a Catholic booth, I guess. (Don't know any religious orders that wear fedoras, though. Hmmm.... There's a story there.) Still, it was a lot of fun. Frank and I sat in the drizzly rain Sat evening while Cyn explored Chicago looking for Menards to get a tarp. Glad she got one, too, because it was a deluge Sunday afternoon! I'm finally home, with a to-do list that's 75 items long. I'll have a conference report up on my blog Friday. www.fabianspace.blogspot.com
